Thanks for joining us as we chatted about Young Adults in the Church on the Me & Re Podcast. Here are some key takeaways!
Take Courage
Take the fifteen seconds & do the thing–whatever “it” is. The Lord will be glorified with your courage & you never know what interaction might change your life.
Find Community
“You got to find your people…” Insert Drew Holcomb’s song here. The Lord created us for community. Your people are the ones that will invite you over for dinner, answer your questions, & potentially change your flat tire. I know your couch & Disney+ is comfy, but you aren’t going to bump into “your people” in your living room. Take a chance & introduce yourself. They might need you just as much as you need them.
It’s okay if it's awkward.
Everyone is awkward at some point in their life. Embrace it. Laugh about it & keep moving forward. Awkwardness attracts, so community might be waiting for you at your next awkward encounter.
Do life with people.
Ask people to go grocery shopping with you or help you organize your closet. These are the mundane tasks that everyone has to do, so why not do it together? This is a great way to build community and foster a relationship with a friend. Life is better together!
No one else knows what they are doing either.
This is just a fact. Everyone is in the learning process for whatever stage of life they are in. I know we were lied to as children; no one actually has it all together. That’s Jesus’ job.
Ask questions.
You can’t learn if you don’t ask. No question is off limits, but pick your time & place wisely. (Asking about your ingrown toenail at dinner is not the appropriate time & place.)
Do it scared.
I know this sounds like taking courage, but this lasts longer than fifteen seconds. Doing it scared usually comes with a pit of anxiety in your stomach & twelve million questions as to if this is the right choice. If the Lord told you to do it, it's the right choice–even if you don’t like it.
You aren’t a burden.
You are allowed to take up space. People love caring for you. You have permission to need & want things. You are allowed to feel the feelings & process them in community. Let people love you well.
You are special.
There is no one on the planet like you. You have a unique gifting, designed by God, to serve the Church {not the building, but the people}. You are needed. Whether your gifting is rocking babies, baking cookies, or underwater basket weaving - we need your specific skill set to continue to share the good news of Jesus.
10. Remember that Jesus is faithful.
I know it doesn’t feel like it sometimes, but the Lord is going to do what He promised. Trust Him. He loves you so much that He took your punishment for everything you’ve ever done. But the cool thing about Jesus is He didn’t stay dead. He defeated death after taking our punishment & fulfilled every promise He’s ever made. If the circumstances aren't good, then He’s not done.
